God’s Grace At Work

I watched a recent news report on the ongoing political controversies in our nation's capitals, and one analyst gave his opinion. The following is not a quotation but gives the gist of his comments: "It is all about power. Political power and the power to get things done the way you want them done. That is the simple explanation of what is happening."
Power! It is an essential element of everything in life: in politics, current events, and even when it comes to faith!
In the book of First Peter, the early Christians were afraid! The Roman government seemed to stand against them, and the people around them resisted their efforts to share their faith. Because the Christians were in the minority, they had no power at all! Those in power would not protect them, and they often worked against the Church and even tried to silence them. They needed power!
Interestingly, Peter spoke to these struggling Christians and explained that they had a reason for hope because they had experienced salvation resulting from God's power at work in their lives. He reminded them that they had experienced God's great gifts because He had worked through the life and death of his son, Jesus, and had brought him back from the dead. And, because of Jesus' shed blood, sin, and death had been conquered – by the power of God! This power of God was with them and in them, even though their enemies hated them.
They had hope because of God's power!
The message of the Gospel is a message of God's power! He conquered sin and death, He lives and works within us, and based on this, we have a reason to live our lives for him. Just as importantly, we can show God's power at work within us as we practice love toward others. Like he said in Chapter 1, "Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart, for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and abiding word of God." vv.22-23
In this life, you may struggle, but the One God, all-powerful and good, loves you and wants to help you live this life. Follow Him in faith, be filled, and find grace, peace, and the power you need to live each day.
