Young Life is all about relationships. We are caring adults who love Jesus and love high school kids. We have a desire to go to where high school kids are in order to build relationships with them. We desire to come alongside kids and get right in the middle of their lives in order that we might get to know them and they get to know us. The Young Life leader comes into their world, loves them right where they are without judgement. As kids do life alongside us, they get to see how we respond to Jesus in our ordinary, everyday lives. By doing real life with kids, we earn the right to listen to their stories and we earn the right to share the greatest love story and the greatest pursuit of all time; the Gospel of Jesus.
We officially launched Young Life in the fall of 2019, and the past year we have built relationships with a crew of incredible high school kids. We originally connected with these kids at sporting events, the school cafeteria, at Young Life club, coffee shops, restaurants, and more; we call this contact work and it’s the core of what we do. Right now, our team of Young Life leaders are engaged in small groups throughout the city on Tuesday nights with this group of key kids. We are committed to doing life with them, and are prayerful that God will bring more and more teenagers to Himself through us. This past week Young Life re-launched Club at Westminster Hall. This semester Club will happen once a month in the parking lot in order to maintain social distance and uphold gathering recommendations.
Young Life Independence has one full-time staff person serving as Area Director; Bailey Higgins. Bailey served as a fourth grade teacher for 12 years prior to stepping into the role of Area Director. Bailey spent 10 of those 12 years in the Independence School District at William Southern Elementary. Bailey was a Young Life kid herself; she heard and responded to the gospel because of the investment of her Young Life leader. Bailey and her husband Cody are partners at LifeConnection Church. The Higgins have a five-year-old son named Wilson who attends Blackburn Elementary School. They are committed to seeing teenagers all across the city of Independence reached with the good news of Jesus through relationships.
