What would Jesus say to... Family Leaders
Monday Nov 11, 2019
Monday Nov 11, 2019
Families are great, aren’t they?
There is nothing more enjoyable or more precious to me than getting together with my family – eating, laughing, and watching the grandkids – it truly is, as one Grandma told me, “pure joy!”
Families are an essential part of our lives – and the more we understand about human development, the more we realize that when we mess with family structures, we often do great damage to people!
Let’s imagine Jesus talking to a family leader on a bench – a mother or father, or maybe a grandparent who is raising their grandchildren. What might He say?
God’s relationship with His people shows us the way a family is to work.
A healthy family is based upon shared commitments.
- Unconditional love and acceptance
- Support and encouragement
- Instruction and chastening
- A Healthy Faith
See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.
I John 3:1-2

How and Why to Rebuild
Wednesday Oct 30, 2019
Wednesday Oct 30, 2019
A survey of Ezra
Have you ever built, or made something? Sometimes, for a whole host of reasons our hard work, and effort ends up ruined, broken, or completely destroyed.
My boys love playing with legos. When my oldest son, Eli was first introduced to them I had to help him a lot. Ben who is 2 years younger was not ready to build things with legos yet. As a result, if Eli, and I left out any of our creations, Ben would play with them, utterly destroying them. As a result, we would rebuild even better creations, and eventually Ben did as well.
How - Respond to stirring
- It’s about direction, not destination Ezra 1:5
- Unless God builds the house Ps. 127
Why - The Holy Spirit directs in waves Ezra Ch. 2
- Waves with various skills
- I Thes. 5:19 don't quench the spirit
How - By bringing restoration/Fresh start Ezra 3:11-13
- Sometimes the original foundation is wrong, or weak
- We can’t move forward without dealing with the past Eph. 4:22-24
Why - Grace requires forgiveness
- Resentment stifles growth
How - In spite of our enemies, for a just cause. Ezra Ch. 4
- The world wants to dilute the absolute truth of God. Making us just like them.
- We may seem to have setbacks, that’s why it’s about direction, not a destination.
Why - As a testimony of the one true God!! Heb. 12:1
So, what are we building??

What would Jesus say to an Entertainer?
Tuesday Oct 22, 2019
Tuesday Oct 22, 2019
The lives of entertainers have always been the stuff of magazine articles, haven’t they? Multiple affairs and marriages, alcohol use and abuse, drug parties, emotional roller coasters, and of course children who tend to perpetuate the cycle of dysfunction. Not all entertainers live this way – some are quite normal – but so many have lives that can only be graciously described as “train wrecks.”
What would Jesus say to an entertainer today, if He were to watch a few episodes of Entertainment Tonight, or read a cheap magazine in the line at the grocery story? If Jesus were able to sit down and talk with one of the many wealthy, popular media stars that we pay to see and hear on a daily basis, what words of wisdom might He give? And, would Jesus challenge them in any way?
I think Jesus would embrace them, commend them for their talents, and then help them understand that There is nothing this world can offer that is more important and fulfilling than a life built on Jesus.
He would also tell them to:
- Live your life “in Christ”
- Base your life upon the teachings in God’s Word
Our scripture comes from Matthew 6:19-21

What would Jesus say to a Teacher
Wednesday Oct 16, 2019
Wednesday Oct 16, 2019
- The role of teacher or servant is a very good and Christian role
- A Teacher or Servant assumes a heavy burden of responsibility
- A teacher or servant can be a life-changing role model
- A Teacher or servant can be a moral guide and ‘gatekeeper’ of actions.

The Best Witness
Sunday Sep 29, 2019
Sunday Sep 29, 2019
Have you, or someone you know ever been in a situation where we were overthinking a situation?
It's easy to do, and can happen for so many reasons. It may be financial issues, conflicts in a relationship, or problems with a job. Maybe all three!?!
No matter the reason, we can get ourselves in trouble when we overthink a situation. This can be especially dangerous in positions of great responsibility, and authority. It's not hard to
recall moments like these with our boss, or in politics, and of course family members.
Overthinking our relationship with Jesus is no different. When we overthink it destroys our witness. When we do it does a number of things like; we put limits on God. In other words we put him in a box. We also make it about the works of our faith. This makes us over critical of ourselves, and others. After all of that we live out our faith motivated by guilt which eventually will make us resent God and others.
In our text, Genesis 40 we see both Joseph, and Pharaoh giving us some great ways to avoid overthinking, and showing our best witness for Christ.
- Joseph's reputation revolves around why he was doing what he did, and not just the fact he did it.
- What Joseph did, he did with excellence to glorify, and love on God. He was never trying to please anyone else other than God.
- Pharaoh was humble enough to listen to Joseph.
What witness does Joseph's life show?
Genesis 41:15-16
15) Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I have had a dream, but no one can interpret it; and I have heard it said about you, that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.” 16) Joseph then answered Pharaoh, saying, “It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh a favorable answer.”

What would Jesus say... to a Politician
Tuesday Sep 24, 2019
Tuesday Sep 24, 2019
Have you ever heard someone use the phrase, “We’re going to have a ‘come to Jesus’ meeting?” It usually means someone is in trouble, and they’re going to get an earful – in judgment, punishment, and correction from someone!
But what if. . . what if people really could have a ‘come to Jesus’ meeting – where they sat down and allowed Jesus to talk, and really listened – do you think that would change anything?
Today we begin a series dealing with that very issue – of different people in different stations in life having a ‘come to Jesus’ meeting. If Jesus were to sit down with someone, what would He say?
Our first person in this hypothetical situation is The Politician; it could be anyone in public office: our President, or a senator; a dictator from another culture; a shaman or religious leader who wields political power. What would Jesus say to them? Today, we reference Romans 13:1-5
I think one of the main ideas He might say is this
God has planned for people to gather under governmental systems.
-
Serving in a governmental position is a ministry of awesome responsibility and privilege.
- Live a life of wisdom and self-restraint.
- The Church can be a force for good in a society – work with it!
The wise politician, after this conversation with Jesus, would say something like this:
“Thy word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against Thee. . . I will meditate on Thy precepts, And regard thy ways. I shall delight in Thy statutes; I shall not forget Thy word. Thy word is a lamp to my feet, And a light to my path.” Psalm 119:11, 15-16, 105

Your Life as a Steward of God’s gifts
Tuesday Sep 17, 2019
Tuesday Sep 17, 2019
What in the world is a “steward,” anyway? How many times have you used that word in a sentence, or heard someone else use it? While some of us may have grown up in a time when that term was commonly used, more than the likely the younger ones hear have seldom, if ever, heard it used.
Interestingly, the scripture use the term “steward” often, and always in the context of the way believers are to approach their daily lives. Today we will look at 2 different passages in I Corinthians 4 and I Peter 4, both using this old term to guide us in this Christian life.
Being a good steward is simply a life lived with a conscious choice to honor God. As a follower of Jesus, your life is your gift to God!

Purposes of the Church: A Communal People
Tuesday Sep 03, 2019
Tuesday Sep 03, 2019
When we consider the issue of God’s purposes for the Church, we need to keep in mind our very real need for encouragement and support from other Christians – what is often called “fellowship.”
When Paul wrote his letter to the Roman church, they did not yet fully understood the way those in the faith were to love and support each other. This passage was one of many passages in scripture that teaches us of the way Christians in the Church were to connect. Our passage today is Romans 12:9-13
We’ve talked about the importance of worship and evangelism in the church; today we’re going to talk about the importance of our common bond of faith. Paul here teaches us that:
- Christians are to nurture their sense of fellowship with other Christians
- God uses the fellowship of Christians to bring positive things into our lives
God’s plan for Christian fellowship is brilliant! In the formation of The Church He has provided all who follow Jesus a place, and a group, that will accept and care for them.

Purposes for The Church: The Service of Worship
Monday Aug 19, 2019
Monday Aug 19, 2019
The word “worship” means one thing, and it’s very simple: Going to a church service - Right?
That’s sometimes the extent of peoples’ understanding of what worship is. In the last few years it has been slightly modified by some: You might even hear people refer to the musical part of a service is the “Worship,” and there’s everything else. We even call our Music leaders “worship leaders,” because of this. These and other examples show a real misunderstanding of what God considers “worship.”
The scriptures teach us something of worship in Paul’s letter to the Roman. Today, we reference Romans 12:1-2
Listen along as Rev Kev explains the teachings from this passage
-
Worship is an act or lifestyle that brings honor and glory to God
-
God can use a life of worship to change the world
- God's Work through Worship
A life of faith is a gift of worship to God. This worship is a way to bring glory to God, and invite His presence and influence into our lives.
